I went to see the Lord of the Rings on Stage, and it was amazing.
To be honest I didn’t really know what to expect. As a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy my biggest worry was that they wouldn’t be able to do it. There is a reason the Lord of the Rings is split over a series of 3 books, there is so much information and detail that Tolkien put into the books, that it had to be split into three (the Fellowship of the Ring, the Two Towers and the Return of the King). That’s what makes theLord of the Rings so great.
Peter Jackson did an amazing job of bringing the book to the screen, but you shouldn’t really compare the two because you can do so much more for the screen than you can on the stage.

I’m not a theatre critic so I wont be analysing the show in depth, but I will say as a lord of the rings fan what I liked.
The way that they managed to bring the lord of the rings to the stage was phenomenal. The show uses special effects, I don’t really know how but they were used really effectively to bring the story to life. I don’t want to spoil it for people, because the special effects are what makes the show a spectacle. Look out for the Balrog (the beast that Gandalf fights in the Fellowship of the Ring), the battles, and the shelob spider.
If you’ve ever seen the Lord of the Rings on the screen you’ll know that the orcs are some of the most ugly things you’ll have ever seen, and one of the best things about seeing the lord of the rings on stage was that the Orcs get a little bit to close for comfort. It was probably one of the best moments in the show, that we were totally unaware of and unexpected

The show was 3 hours long including a 20 minute interval. Don’t let that amount of time put you off, as it just fly’s by. Just tell yourself this, if you can sit through 3 lord of the rings movies, then you can mos definetely sit through all 3 in one on stage.
By the end of the show my friends and I were all in agreement, “Let’s see it again!” Unfortunately we never had the time to. But really you should make time to go and see it, everyone should see it once at least. It was well performed by all involved, my only annoyance, which is small and maybe a bit silly but Jame Loye, the actor who plays Frodo, he’s a great actor, accept we couldn’t take his accent seriously, we couldn’t really place it, I want to say that it was a cornish accent, but we couldn’t really place it. See nitpicking really.
